Making the Glossary

WSSPR and Public Health Wales used a mixture of methods to identify the terminology associated with social prescribing and develop the glossary. A brief overview of the process is depicted below:

If you are interested, the process is explained in more detail in the Professional Facing Glossary of Terms. Because we identified so many terms, we split them into two categories:

1. Core Social Prescribing Terms: These are terms that are specific and/or essential to the process of social prescribing.

2. Non-Core Social Prescribing Terms: These are terms that are associated with social prescribing but are not specific and/or essential to the process of social prescribing.

Production of the glossary focused on the Core Social Prescribing Terms. A list of hundreds of terms is not particularly helpful, so we consolidated these down into a list of 36 ‘suggested terms’ for use. However, all of the core terms we identified are represented within the glossary.

It is likely that there are terms that we have missed and that the language of social prescribing will change over time. To make sure the glossary is up-to-date and relevant we aim to review and improve the glossary periodically.  You can help by providing feedback and suggestions, via the tab located at the top of the page, or by contacting us directly.
